Clipboard history
macOS Tahoe includes recent Clipboard History in Spotlight. Stowpad adds a longer, searchable history encrypted on the Mac where you copied it.
Unlimited encrypted history
Every clip is recorded as you copy and kept encrypted with a key held in your login Keychain. Free keeps the newest 30 usable; Pro removes the limit.
Insert without switching apps
⌘⌃⇧V opens Stowpad over the app you are using. Choose a clip and press Return to insert it at the cursor through macOS Services. Stowpad does not need Accessibility permission or simulated keystrokes.
Source and time on every clip
Each clip keeps the app it came from, when it arrived and its original formatting. Those details keep a large history searchable.
Pins
Keep the clips you reuse at the top. Three on Free, unlimited on Pro.
Locked History
Clips past the free limit remain encrypted in Locked History and can still be exported. If you upgrade later, they return to your history.
Scheduled clearing
Clear on quit, or daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or on days and a time you choose. Clearing history also clears the current system pasteboard.
Export
CSV, plain text or JSON, gated behind Touch ID or your Mac password. The exported file is yours and is not encrypted by Stowpad.
Screen capture
Capture text from images, PDFs, videos and other apps. Apple’s Vision framework reads it locally on your Mac.
Capture text from any region
⌘⌃⇧T, drag a region, and the recognised text lands in your history. The captured image is written inside Stowpad's private container, decoded and deleted immediately.
Indentation reconstruction
Ordinary OCR reads line by line and flattens leading whitespace, which destroys code and nested lists. Stowpad rebuilds the indentation from where each line actually starts.
Table capturePro
Rows and columns are recognised as structure, shown for review, then exported as Markdown, CSV, TSV, LaTeX or Booktabs. It reads the rendered page, so scans and screenshots work too.
Colour picker
Press ⌘⌃⇧P and click any pixel. Stowpad keeps structured colour data that you can paste as hex, eight-digit hex, rgb, rgba, hsl or hsb. Point mode works without Screen Recording permission.
Typed clips
Stowpad recognises each clip and gives it a suitable preview, making long histories easier to scan.
Twelve recognised types
Text, code, JSON, links, email addresses, phone numbers, colours, images, files, LaTeX, tables and references each have their own preview.
Rendered previews
LaTeX renders as maths. Colour values show their actual swatch. Code keeps its indentation and highlighting. Tables keep their grid.
ConversionsPro
Format JSON and XML, decode Base64 and URLs, convert colour values between formats and reshape tables. All conversions run locally as ordinary code.
Citations in nine stylesPro
APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE, Vancouver, BibTeX, BibLaTeX and RIS, formatted on your Mac. Optional DOI lookup runs only when you press Look Up.
Search and organisation
A history is only as good as your ability to get one specific thing back out of it.
Structured search
Filter by content type, source app, date and label. Try type:code from:Safari or label:Work today on their own or with keywords.
Smart search and on-device answersPro
Ask in plain language, or press Return to ask a question of the clips already found. The answer is written on your Mac and cites the clips it used.
Collections and tagsPro
Group clips into collections you name and colour, and tag in batches. Deleting a label never deletes the clips attached to it.
RulesPro
File new clips automatically as they arrive, based on what they are and where they came from. Rules run locally.
Writing actionsPro
Use Apple Intelligence on your Mac to summarise, clean formatting, extract tasks, adjust tone, fix grammar, explain code or suggest a title. The result stays in preview until you copy, save or apply it.
Privacy and storage
The clipboard is where passwords, keys and personal data pass through. Stowpad is built assuming any clip could be one of those.
Encrypted at rest
History, attachments, source-app context and local indexes are encrypted with a key in your login Keychain.
Protected apps
Mark an app and its clips are redacted, require Touch ID or your Mac password before being pasted or read, and are excluded from indexes, suggestions and every model request. Protecting an app also removes metadata already retained from its earlier clips.
Local, with no account
Stowpad stores clipboard content on your Mac and has no sign-in or sync service. Generative features run locally through Apple Intelligence. They do not use Private Cloud Compute or another cloud provider.
Optional local Ollama
You can use Ollama as an alternative local model. It is off by default, restricted to 127.0.0.1, receives no credentials and cannot be configured with a remote host.
Reference lookup
Reference lookup sends a DOI to doi.org after you enable it and press Look Up. Nothing else in the app contacts a server.
Try it
Free covers the newest 30 clips, keyword and structured search, rich previews, pins, screen text capture and the colour picker. Pro adds everything marked above, with a 14-day trial and no account. See pricing.
